About the Classes
All levels classes are designed to release chronic
tension, develop stability, strength and flexibility to help
us in our day-to-day life. We present the teachings of yoga
in ways that allow virtually everyone to benefit from this
ancient practice. Classes include body awareness, breathing
exercises, warm-ups, range of motion exercises, dynamic movement,
postures, syllable sounding, guided imagery, relaxation and
meditation. Students need to be comfortable
getting up and down from the floor, sitting on the floor
and kneeling. Variations of the postures are
offered so that each participant can choose the practice
that suits them.
Focused classes are for students interested in yoga as a self exploration. Each class will be structured around a focused teaching. We'll use props including yoga balls, bolsters and blankets to support the body's learning. Props can support the body in order to help a) understand the expression and gesture of a posture, b) stay present with the sensations and feelings that arise, c) add stability or more optimum body alignment, and/or d) allow for longer holdings so that the energetics of the pose can make an impact.
Chair Yoga for Stability. A class
for seniors, healing and anyone who would enjoy yoga but not getting
down on the floor. All postures will be done in a chair or standing.
The class will include movement to improve balance, core strength and
flexibility.
Stress Reduction Yoga is a Level 1 class that uses
the practices of yoga to develop a more comfortable relationship
between mind and body. Classes will include breathing practices
and yoga postures that reduce stress
and create more balance in our lives. Bringing our awareness
to ourselves in yoga can help reduce stress and control how
we nurture and nourish ourselves. Posture variations will
allow all shapes and sizes to find the position that allows
comfort and a full-flowing breath.
Gentle classes emphasize soothing, healing, restorative
practices. These classes are appropriate for those who need
to slow down to reduce stress, those with physical limitations
or are in the process of healing or recovery and students
who prefer the gentle approach. For all classes students
are encouraged to modify or release anything that is not comfortable
and to use variations that allow a steady awareness and breath.
Props are provided to allow for comfortable sitting, to cushion
knees when kneeling, and to aid the wrists when weight-bearing
on hands and knees. Classes are geared for adults, although
past students range in age from 6 to 89.
Please go to groups section to learn about classes which
can be available for students with specific needs.
Yoga class is one of the best parts of my week.
