Yin and Yang: Yoga for Healing and Wellbeing

Sunday, March 7, 1–4:30pm with Ken Nelson and Lesli Lang

Taoist yoga is still as a mountain and flowing like a great river.

Create a yoga flow for your condition, mood and constitution with the wisdom of Chinese medicine. Target the life force, chi, or prana, to where it's needed. Enjoy two ways to practice. While yang yoga takes you to your muscular edge, yin goes to your center.

Yang Yoga: Power up your practice. Energize and direct chi to your muscles with breath and motion. Enliven your standing poses with flowing rhythm and creativity. Stretch and strengthen to invigorate and flush the body with blood, heat and vitality, for cardio-conditioning and cleansing.

Yin Yoga: Relax your muscles and deepen your concentration. Ready your mind for meditation with a quiet, peaceful practice. Surrender your body to gravity with long-held floor poses for flexibility and range of motion. With slow, steady compression and gentle traction, yin poses moisturize joints and nourish ligaments, helping them to become healthier, stronger and more pliant. Reverse the stiffening and shortening effects of aging, injury or lifestyle. Relieve pain and chronic tension in the hips, low back, pelvis, and spine. Yin yoga rehabilitates fascia, our body's crystalline web of connective tissue. This structural and energetic support system is a semiconducting matrix of matter and energy. Restoring this fabric of life allows the organizing wisdom of chi to flow freely, telling the cells how to form and reform.

• Discover the secret of stress and rest to strengthen and heal
• Learn to trust your choices about how and when to practice
• Tune-in and target your practice to meet your needs
• Shape your practice for your body-type and lifestyle
• Leave with a set of yin and yang postures you can do on their own, or integrate into your regular yoga or exercise routine.

Cost: $60, early bird price of $50 if payment is received by February 26

Mini-retreat with Joan Ruvinsky

Saturday, March 27, 10:00am–5:00pm

Using a myriad of practices from the yoga tradition including pranayama, quiet sitting, body sensing yoga, chant, yoga nidra and inquiry dyads, a multi-dimensional exploration of the aspects of Being is experienced. The gift of silence allows true listening to emerge. Living as Presence, all thought, images, perception and experience are seen to be simply coagulations of pure awareness. Nothing to seek, nothing to reject, just realizing things as they are, simultaneously real and shimmeringly transparent.

Sample Schedule
10am to 12:30pm quiet sitting, bodysensing, pranayama, yoga nidra
12:30 to 2pm lunch break (vegan lunch provided at 12:30pm)
2 to 5pm dyads, discussion and chanting

Cost: $85 (lunch included), $75 if payment is received by 3/12.

Joan Ruvinsky: In 1989, after 13 years of attempts at path-finding, Joan Ruvinsky met Jean Klein, who, having never taken himself to be a teacher, eliminated the need to be a student, to have a path, a method or a goal. At home in these nondual wisdom teachings, Joan shares body sensing yoga, conversation and presence at her center Pathless Yoga in Montreal and at retreats and workshops in other states and provinces. She has kept close fellowship with Richard Miller and Eric Baret since their days together with Jean Klein. Joan has the regular approbations from Integral Yoga, Integrative Yoga Therapy and Yoga Alliance E-RYT500. She offers seminars on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, iRest Yoga Nidra, and is a member of the Council of Stewards of the Center of Timeless Being. For more information: www.pathlessyoga.com.
